Poverty Report

Well, the Census Bureau released a report today that says that poverty in the US has risen yet again and now totals over 15% of the population up for the third year in a row and up almost a full percentage point from a year ago. Republicans like to say that we have to give tax breaks to the "job creators" (loosely defined as those people that have more money than God). It looks to me that the "job creators" aren't really doing their job and, in the All-Holy Private Sector if you don't do the job, you get fired.

So, in the spirit of Free Enterprise, I propose that we fire these schmucks, stop supporting them with our tax dollars, and tax the hell out of them. Then we can take that money and create some jobs that will feed some of these people.

Note to Tea Party

The next time that you want to play chicken with the economy you might note that, even if you manage to avoid the car coming at you, sometimes you end up in a ditch or hitting a tree.

Debt Deal II

  Maybe the rich don't like it either for some reason. I just noticed that my tiny 401k lost $1500 today.

Debt Deal

Winners:  

- Large Corporations (love those loopholes).

- Millionaires and Billionaires (see above).

- People who asleep during history class (especially the class on the Depression).

- People who live in the 18th century.

Losers:

- The Poor (always the losers it seems).

- The Unemployed (see above).

- The Class Formerly Known as The Middle (see above).

- Any sort of future for the American prospect.

It is becoming exceedingly clear that George W. Bush and his cronies did break the country and Barak Obama doesn't have the juice (personal or political) to put it back together again. This must be what living in the UK was like right after World War II.

Mistaken Identity

I showed up for jury duty early this morning at Suffolk County Superior Court and court personnel immediately started to smile and ask me questions like: "When did you get in from California?"  I was given a high number and therefore didn't have to be impaneled for a jury. I guess they thought that no one would want a Whitey look-alike as a jury member today.

Scribbled, scribbled, scribbled

If, for some strange reason, you've been curious about what I've been scribbling for the past year, I've been selected (along with 11 others) to give a short presentation on my Master's Thesis next week. If you'd like to come, it's being held at the Hilles Library (Radcliffe Quad - up Garden Street from the Square) on Tuesday May 17 - sometime after 6pm.

I promise all sorts of insights into old dead Yankees and Anti-Catholics. The title of the thesis is: Half the Battle: The Failure of the American Party in Antebellum Massachusetts.

Job Requirement

Allergies have been in full bloom for the past week, so I stayed in bed trying to get a little extra sleep while D got up and watched the hat orgy in London. I did get up in time to see Will and Kate take the coach back to the Buckingham crib waving all the way. These people are going to have to learn from Grandmum how to wave to the masses with the correct technique or they're going to have serious RSI problems before they're 35. There may not be many job requirements to be a Royal in England, but that's got to be one of them.

History Lesson

When is our President going to get the fact that goals, timetables, and other business geegaws are not what move people politically.  Things happen when people get pissed off. 

Harvard Welcomes Back ROTC

So, because the military finally decided that a tenth of the population should actually have Civil Rights Harvard decides that they are now some sort of hallmark of Enlightenment values and they should have a place at a learned institution. I don't know, but the last time that checked no branch of the military scored high on the "Encourages Independent and Critical Thought" test.

But then again, Harvard has a business school, so I guess their just being consistent.
