Wednesday was the semi-yearly Prostate Cancer checkup and, for some reason, I was nervous about this one. Even though it's been three years since treatment, a perennial part of the cancer boogie man is that you're always expecting it to come back and, since this happens in 30% of cases like mine, this is not an irrational fear. You cope with it as best you can (or go into denial that it ever happened which, in these cases, may not be a bad strategy).
As it turns out, nothing to worry about (PSA levels down where they should be) and I get to try to forget about it for another six months.
Let's hear it for selective memory.
Tom, it's been about 10 years since I gave my (untreated) prostate cancer any thought and the PSA has been flatline or lower. I work with the model that since my prostate cancer is obviously indolent (lazy MF'er)and lazy people are less empowered, if I think about it at all, I only empower it. Bad idea. Has worked so far. Good luck. I thought it was the end of the world when I became unemployed (2 kids in college, 2 more close) but life has worked out just fine.
