She would have liked to have been there.
The main courtyard of the Fogg Museum of Art, where Craigen Bowen spent so many years, was packed to standing room only with family, colleagues, and friends who came to pay tribute to her. Speakers represented many of the different aspects of her life - family, climbing, art conservation and, of course, the effect that she had on people personally. No one spared the truth - as Craigen herself never spared the truth - but no one spared expressing the love that we all had for her either.
She wanted a "good party" and she got that too. Two hours after the "service" people still filled the hall drinking wine, eating bits of food, and telling Craigen stories.
Now, ironically starting on this Easter Sunday, comes the hard part for many of us - dealing with the fact that there is a Craigen-sized hole in our lives. The good news is that she'll never really be far away.
