The interesting about Joe Lieberman becoming an "Independent" after losing the Democratic primary is that this seems to be about nothing other than the fact that Joe expects that he should be in the Senate because he has been in the Senate. He's not pressing any particular agenda. He's not fighting for any particular cause. It's just all about Joe and what he's entitled to.
Now, in a situation where the country is circling a loud flushing sound, one would think that a politician with his head up wouldn't be touting the fact that he has 18 years in the United States Senate, but Joe seems to think that because he's put in so much time, he should be re-elected to do whatever it is that he's been doing for yet another six more years. But, of course, the Far Left agenda is in his way. (Summary of the Far Left agenda: what we've been doing doesn't seem to be working; let's try something else. Yup, real radical. And not something that most incumbents can probably get behind.)
Now the Republicans aren't able to rejigger the Senate districts (whole states) like the House districts yet (they are currently over their allotment in Constitutional amendment attempts in this session with all that flag burning and prayer in school stuff) but give them time. And, in the meantime, they're into keeping all the people in currently in Congress right where they are. This is the current defintion of Joe-mentum (which is actually Joe-static). Call me old-fashioned, but I think that we should elect people who stand for something beyond their right to be elected because they've been elected.
