Who would have thought that it would be the Iraqi people who would be the ones to save our bacon after we invaded they're country and made their lives an alternate hell from the one that they experienced under Sadam? We're obviously not out of the woods (or their country) yet, but the fact that so many came out to vote under the threat of violence may mean that we can turn the country over to them and get the hell out of there sooner rather than later. This is heartening even if the neo-cons seem to have learned absolutely nothing from all this.

Also, as a loyal American I have to be ashamed of the fact that a larger percentage of Iraqi voters came to the polls than Americans did in our recent elections. Maybe rather than debates we should just threaten to bomb random polling stations across the country. Maybe that would bring out people.

Yellow Bias

We've all heard about the alleged liberal bias of the media. Today Doctors without Borders released their list of the Top 10 Humanitarian Stories Top 10 Humanitarian Stories that have been ignored in the past year - pushed off of the agenda of news organizations by such critical topics as Michael Jackson and Scott Peterson.

The media doesn't have a liberal bias these days. It's got a yellow journalism bias.

Diminishing Resource

Our beloved Governor (no, really, I'm not running for President) Romney announced his priorities for the new budget yesterday and among the top priorities was welfare "reform." Not being content with mothers of children up to two years old being exempt from workfare requirements, he proposes that all moms with children over one year old be required to work to recieve assistance.

Last I checked, I didn't hear any hew and cry about women with small children "getting a free ride" courtesy of the taxpayers of the Commonwealth. More likely, Mitt is simply building his right-wing credentials for the office that he is not running for by beating up on some of the Commonwealth's more vulnerable.

What are these guys going to do when they run out of poor women to bully for political gain?

Good News / Bad News

The New York Times today reports that those warm and fuzzy evangelical Christians who have spend the past two months falling all over themselves boasting that they elected the President are now starting to throw their weight around threatening to block Social Security "Reform" unless George introduces a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. This must be giving the corporate wing of the Republican Party fits.

But couldn't they have picked something else Old Testamental to get all ugly about? What about a Constitutional amendment for stoning adulterers?

Keeping Busy

"Bush Resolves to Spread Cause of Liberty Worldwide" states the headline of the Boston Globe this morning. Well, it is good to have something to do while we wait for the Rapture.

Chinese Connection

Okay. How many of you think that the Chinese terrorists are actually members of the Romney for President campaign?

Focus on Fish

As reported in the New York Times this morning, it seems that Dr. James Dobson of the right-wing Christian group Focus on the Family is upset with SpongeBob since Dobson says the cartoon has been enlisted in a "pro-homosexual" video about tolerance.

"... Paul Batura, assistant to Mr. Dobson at Focus on the Family, said the group stood by its accusation.
We see the video as an insidious means by which the organization is manipulating and potentially brainwashing kids," he said. "It is a classic bait and switch."

Apt analogy, heh?

It's Condi Time

So, I guess that it's now time to do diplomacy - unlike the old era when that Collin Powell guy was around.

I think it's going to be easier for me to watch the news now. I hated watching Powell get the shaft day after day as he held down the reasonablity wing of the administration.
